Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)
At United Way Waterloo Region, we recognize that poverty, discrimination,
and injustice are deeply interconnected and that eliminating them requires
sustained effort to remove inequitable barriers both in our community work
and within our organization.
The harms caused by colonialism, systemic racism, ableism, and other forms
of oppression have created lasting disparities for Indigenous, Black,
Racialized, 2SLGBTQIA+, and persons with differing abilities in our
community.
We reaffirm our commitment to advance equity by funding organizations
that serve equity-deserving groups, advocating for systemic change, and
educating ourselves and our community. We listen deeply to community
voices and act intentionally to remove the attitudes, policies, and practices
that perpetuate oppression.
Through equitable and inclusive partnerships, open funding opportunities,
and transparent resource distribution, we seek to uplift individuals and
organizations working to address systemic inequities. We are equally
committed to examining and changing our own policies and practices to
ensure that our organization does not exclude or oppress.
Guided by the principles of reconciliation and equity, we will continue to
make measurable progress toward eliminating systemic racism,
discrimination, and poverty — demonstrating our dedication to creating a
community where everyone can thrive.
