Initiatives
Below are some examples of United Way projects
and initiatives taking place in Waterloo Region.
A Community Space for
Connection
Beyond funding and community planning activities, United
Way Waterloo Region contributes practical community
infrastructure that supports collaboration across the
nonprofit sector. Through its Community Hub, UWWR
provides free meeting and boardroom space for local
organizations, helping reduce operating costs and create
opportunities for connection, planning, and partnership.
Between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, the Community
Hub hosted 87 bookings, representing 626.5 hours of use
by 23 community organizations. Based on a meeting
space value of $100 per hour, the Community Hub
generated an estimated $62,650 in community benefit
through free access to space.
Using an average attendance of 20 participants per
booking, an estimated 1,740 people benefited from the
space through board meetings, training sessions,
collaborative planning activities, volunteer engagement
efforts, and partnership tables. By reducing costs and
providing accessible space for organizations to connect and
collaborate, the Community Hub helps strengthen the
nonprofit sector and supports collective action across
